Taiwan is Asia’s Best Kept Secret

We want to share how you can apply for Taiwan Gold Card through the experiences from our Gold Card holder.

Within our Gold Card community, Sebastian Hewing’s application highlights all the benefits to being a Gold Card holder. As we want to share Asia’s best kept secret with you. Sebastian has experienced his digital nomad lifestyle in several places including, Chiang Mai, Bali, Tbilisi, and Medellin. From his experience none of these locations are comparable to Taiwan, he mentions how Taiwan provides, “incredible hospitality and friendliness, spectacular and diverse scenery, incredible convenience, affordable cost-of-living, a hyper-efficient healthcare system, amazing food culture, and world-class safety”

Taiwan provides exceptional travel experiences, delicious cuisine, vibrant culture, and world-class healthcare and entertainment. Not only has it been ranked as one of Asia’s most technologically advance country, but also its start-up scene has been exceptional. Explore the island and start your journey now. This little piece of plastic has changed my life forever!

5 years ago, I left Germany 🇩🇪 with the goal of either becoming a full-time digital nomad or settling down in a different country.

I tried a few places - the usual suspects like Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Bali - or Tbilisi/Georgia and Medellin/Colombia. They were all great, but the place that really sucked me in was Taiwan. 🇹🇼

Taiwan and its people baffled me with incredible hospitality and friendliness, spectacular and diverse scenery, incredible convenience, affordable cost-of-living, a hyper-efficient healthcare system, amazing food culture, and world-class safety. A combination that I think is unique worldwide.

And the best thing is: Taiwan is actually making it easy for foreign professionals and entrepreneurs to come and set up their lives here - it’s just that hardly anyone knows about it. Everyone flocks to Lisbon, Cancun, Bali, or Chiang Mai but Taiwan is like a secret backdoor with a paradise behind it.

The ideal entry ticket to Taiwan for foreign entrepreneurs is the Gold Card - which I am holding as well.

The Gold Card allows you to stay in Taiwan for up to 3 years and work for any (or multiple) companies in Taiwan or start your own business inside or outside of Taiwan. After the 3 years, you automatically become eligible for permanent residency.

There is an online application process that takes only a few minutes to complete. In my case, it cost around US$100 (can be up to ca. US$300 depending on your nationality) and from the time I applied until the time I held the card in my hands it took less than 2 weeks (can be up to 60 days).

After the first 6 months, you become eligible to enroll in the national healthcare program. Healthcare in Taiwan is extremely efficient, convenient, affordable, and of high quality. I only pay around US$30 per month for almost full coverage.

There are many ways to qualify for the Gold Card. The easiest way for foreign entrepreneurs is to prove a minimum monthly salary of NT$160,000 (which is roughly US$5,200 at the time of writing) over the course of one year within the last three years. There are other routes as well, but this is the one I took.
