Here is a summary of frequently asked questions regarding the Taiwan Employment Gold Card program, the application process, and other general questions regarding life in Taiwan and more.

It is recommended to apply 4 months before your Gold Card expires

Requests for information changes must be made through the Online Application Portal. Please log into the Online Application Portal , go to Application Menu → Request a Change of Information on Employment Gold Card. Please note that the online application platform requires applicants to provide their mobile phone number in Taiwan (starting with 09XXX) and residential address.

If you encounter any issues while extending or reapplying for your Gold Card, you can refer to the extension application and reapplication tutorials for guidance.

The following information can be updated online:

  1. Chinese/English Name (NTD 500 fee; must provide the new passport)
  2. Gender (NTD 500 fee)
  3. Passport Number (Free)
  4. Collection Location (Free)
  5. Resident Address (Free; must provide documents, such as water/electricity bills or rental agreement)
  6. Email (Free)
  7. Mobile Phone Number (Free)
  8. Uniform ID Number o Changing to a new ID number is free of charge. o Replacement due to an inappropriate number incurs a NT500 fee and requires submission of both sides of your ID. This change can only be made once. NIA’s contact email: a378liu@immigration.gov.tw Note:

Note: A fee of NT$2,600 is required for Hong Kong/ Macau applicants wishing to change their Name or Gender, according to Article 6 of the Fee-Charging Standards for Visas .

If you need to update any personal information, please file for a replacement using the Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform within 30 days from its occurrence. It takes approximately 1-2 weeks for the National Immigration Agency (NIA) to review your application. Afterwards, you will be able to download the Resident Authorization Certificate to enter Taiwan.

Please refer to the steps below:

  1. Log into the “ Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform ” and select Request a Change of Information on Employment Gold Card.
  2. Type in your address (must be written in Traditional Chinese). Please select the city and district from the drop-down menu, and type in the rest of your address in Chinese (do not type in the city and district).
  3. Upload the following documents:  Proof of accommodation, lease contract , or water/electricity bill with the Gold Card holder’s name  Passport  Gold Card  Headshot taken within 6 months
  4. If additional documents are required, please submit them as requested (if not, skip this step).
  5. Receiving an email from the NIA informing you that “Your Card is Ready to Collect” (It takes approximately 1-2 weeks for the NIA to review your application.
  6. Bring your passport, current Gold Card, and electronic payment receipt to the NIA to collect your new Gold Card.

Note: If you have moved house and not made an address change online within 30 days, the NIA will impose a fine of NT$2,000 to NT$10,000. The actual amount of the fine is determined based on the number of violations. For the first offense, a fine of NT$2,000 will be imposed, NT$5,000 for the second offense, and so on.

If the Gold Card application is returned by the NIA due to the penalty, the applicant should bring their passport, Employment Gold Card, and lease agreement to the NIA to pay the fine. After uploading the payment receipt on the Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform, the review process will continue.

If you deem the UI number inappropriate, you may apply for a change. The processing fee is NT$500, and the number can only be changed once.

Application Steps:

  1. Log into the " Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform "
  2. Select “Application” → “Request a Change of Information on Employment Gold Card”

You can choose to apply for an Employment Gold Card with a validity period of 1 year, 2 years, or 3 years. Within four months before the card expires, if you still meet the eligibility criteria, you may apply for an extension.

About four months before the Employment Gold Card is set to expire, the National Immigration Agency will send an email notification.

Reapplication: Refers to submitting a new application after the Gold Card has expired. The start date will be the date of approval.

Extension Application: Refers to submitting an extension application within four months before the Gold Card expires. The start date will immediately follow the expiration date of the previous Gold Card.

Please note:

  1. Whether it’s a “reapplication” or an “extension application,” you must meet the application requirements for the Gold Card. If you no longer meet the original application criteria, please check if you qualify under other criteria and submit your application accordingly.
  2. The online application buttons for “reapplication” and “extension application” are different, so please be sure to distinguish between them. You can refer to the instructions below:

There are three ways to extend your residency:

  1. Gold Card Extension: You can apply for an extension via the “ Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform (Employment Gold Card)” within 4 months before the expiration date on your Gold Card.
  2. Job-Seeking ARC: You can apply for an extension through the “ Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform (Apply for an extension for other reasons)” within 3 months before your Gold Card expires. For guidance, refer to our job-seeking ARC application tutorial below. If you are from Hong Kong or Macao, you must apply at your local National Immigration Agency (NIA) Service Center. On the “Application for ARC and Extension of Stay” fill-out form, select “Other” under “Classification.” The maximum extension period is 6+6 months. Please note that after obtaining the Job-Seeking ARC, you are not permitted to work in Taiwan. For details on the application procedure, please refer to this LINK for the application procedure.
  3. Work Permit Extension: Your employer can apply or extend a work permit for you at the Ministry of Labor 1 month before your current Gold Card expires. After obtaining a work permit, please apply for an employment ARC with the National Immigration Agency.

Your may extend your Gold Card within 4 months before it expires. Please log into the “ Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform ” and select “Application” and " Application for Extension as a Non-Expired Card Holder “.

When applying for an extension, your basic information must be re-entered, but the platform will automatically retrieve the documents submitted in your previous application (these cannot be viewed or downloaded).

Please note that if you have switched to a new field or category, or if there are new regulations for the category of your previous application, the platform will not retrieve the previously submitted documents, and you will need to re-upload them. If you are not currently employed in Taiwan, you can apply for a 6+6 months job-seeking ARC. Please apply for it within 3 months before your Gold Card expires.

You can apply for an extension online via the “ Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform . Please go to “Apply for an Extension for Other Reasons” (Note) For instructions on how to apply for the job-seeking ARC online, please refer to the attached PDFs.

The application can also be submitted at any National Immigration Agency (NIA) Service Center. The required documents are: original passport and Employment Gold Card, a color headshot no hat (taken within the last 6 months). Fee: NT$1,000

Note: “Apply for an Extension for Other Reasons” here refers to “Job-Seeking ARC”

You have two options:

Online Application: Apply for a Job-Seeking ARC through the “ Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform ” (Apply for an Extension for Other Reasons).

Authorize a representative: Depending on the applicant’s location, the process is as follows: If the applicant is in Taiwan: The representative should bring the following documents to an NIA Service Center to apply: • Letter of Attorney • Original Passport • Original Employment Gold Card • A 2-inch color photo (headshot, without a hat) taken within the last 6 months • Fee: NT$1,000 • Foreigner Residency (Stay) Application Form

If the applicant is outside Taiwan: The representative should bring the following documents to an NIA Service Center to apply: • A Letter of Attorney verified by a Taiwan overseas mission • Copy of the passport verified by a Taiwan overseas mission • Original Employment Gold Card • A 2-inch color photo (headshot, without a hat) taken within the last 6 months • Fee: NT$1,000 • Foreigner Residency (Stay) Application Form

Note: Please arrange for your representative to collect the Job-Seeking ARC and mail it to your overseas address.
