Holders of Employment Gold Card enjoy the following rights and interests:

  1. Work: You can freely switch jobs without applying for a work permit or being bound to a specific employer.
  2. Tax: If certain conditions are met, you may enjoy income tax reductions. Please note: Foreign nationals who receive a Gold Card must still meet specific conditions to qualify for tax exemptions. Please refer to Articles 3 of the Regulations Governing Reduction and Exemption of Income Tax of Foreign Specialist Professionals and Article 20 of the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals .
  3. Family visits: Direct lineal relatives (e.g., parents, grandparents) may apply for a visitor visa through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or a foreign mission, with a maximum total stay duration of one year.
  4. Dependents: The spouse and minor children of the Employment Gold Card holders are eligible for residence in Taiwan.
  5. Health Insurance: Employment Gold Card holders who are hired in Taiwan, are employers in Taiwan, or are self-employed business owner, along with their dependents, can directly enroll in the National Health Insurance program.

The Taiwan Employment Gold Card is a 4-in-1 ID that combines a work permit, resident visa, Alien Resident Certificate (ARC), and re-entry permit. It comes with open-work rights, so you can work for any (or multiple) companies in Taiwan or start your own business.

Please log into the Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform , go to the Application Menu –> Replace a Lost, Stolen, or Damaged Employment Gold Card. Follow the directions, upload the Declaration Letter(DOC) signed with your name and date. After waiting about 2 weeks for the National Immigration Agency’s review, you will be able to pick up your new Gold Card at your designated National Immigration Agency Service Center. If you have lost your Gold Card overseas, after the NIA’s review, you may download the Resident Authorization Certificate from the Online Application Portal and use it to enter Taiwan. The fee is NT$500, except that the fee for residents of Hong Kong or Macau is NT$2,600. Requests for information changes must be made through the Online Application Portal. Please log into the Online Application Portal , go to Application Menu → Request a Change of Information on Employment Gold Card. Please note that the online application platform requires applicants to provide their mobile phone number in Taiwan (starting with 09XXX) and residential address.

If you encounter any issues while extending or reapplying for your Gold Card, you can refer to the extension application and reapplication tutorials for guidance.

The following information can be updated online:

  1. Chinese/English Name (NTD 500 fee; must provide the new passport)
  2. Gender (NTD 500 fee)
  3. Passport Number (Free)
  4. Collection Location (Free)
  5. Resident Address (Free; must provide documents, such as water/electricity bills or rental agreement)
  6. Email (Free)
  7. Mobile Phone Number (Free)
  8. Uniform ID Number o Changing to a new ID number is free of charge. o Replacement due to an inappropriate number incurs a NT500 fee and requires submission of both sides of your ID. This change can only be made once. NIA’s contact email: a378liu@immigration.gov.tw Note:

Note: A fee of NT$2,600 is required for Hong Kong/ Macau applicants wishing to change their Name or Gender, according to Article 6 of the Fee-Charging Standards for Visas .

If you need to update any personal information, please file for a replacement using the Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform within 30 days from its occurrence. It takes approximately 1-2 weeks for the National Immigration Agency (NIA) to review your application. Afterwards, you will be able to download the Resident Authorization Certificate to enter Taiwan.

Please refer to the steps below:

  1. Log into the “ Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform ” and select Request a Change of Information on Employment Gold Card.
  2. Type in your address (must be written in Traditional Chinese). Please select the city and district from the drop-down menu, and type in the rest of your address in Chinese (do not type in the city and district).
  3. Upload the following documents:  Proof of accommodation, lease contract , or water/electricity bill with the Gold Card holder’s name  Passport  Gold Card  Headshot taken within 6 months
  4. If additional documents are required, please submit them as requested (if not, skip this step).
  5. Receiving an email from the NIA informing you that “Your Card is Ready to Collect” (It takes approximately 1-2 weeks for the NIA to review your application.
  6. Bring your passport, current Gold Card, and electronic payment receipt to the NIA to collect your new Gold Card.

Note: If you have moved house and not made an address change online within 30 days, the NIA will impose a fine of NT$2,000 to NT$10,000. The actual amount of the fine is determined based on the number of violations. For the first offense, a fine of NT$2,000 will be imposed, NT$5,000 for the second offense, and so on.

If the Gold Card application is returned by the NIA due to the penalty, the applicant should bring their passport, Employment Gold Card, and lease agreement to the NIA to pay the fine. After uploading the payment receipt on the Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform, the review process will continue.

To reset your account ID or password, please log in to the Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform and click “Forgot Account?” or “Forget Password?”

If you still experience difficulties logging in, please contact the National Immigration Agency (a378liu@immigration.gov.tw). Please include a copy of your Gold Card or passport in your e-mail.

If you deem the UI number inappropriate, you may apply for a change. The processing fee is NT$500, and the number can only be changed once.

Application Steps:

  1. Log into the " Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform "
  2. Select “Application” → “Request a Change of Information on Employment Gold Card”

You can provide one of the following documents as proof of your current residence:

  1. House owner consent statement and a photocopy of the ownership certificate of the house
  2. House owner consent statement and a photocopy of the owner’s ID. (Front/back)
  3. Other documents of proof that you are currently residing at the location.

Yes. Once your application is approved, the Employment Gold Card will replace your ARC or tourist visa.

Please note: Foreign professionals must still meet specific conditions after obtaining their Gold Card to enjoy tax benefits. Please refer to the relevant regulations for qualification details: Articles 3 of the Regulations Governing Reduction and Exemption of Income Tax of Foreign Specialist Professionals and Article 20 of the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals .

The term “foreign specialist professional” refers to a foreign professional who engages in professional work in the R.O.C. and has specialist expertise needed by the R.O.C. in science & technology, economy, education, culture, arts, sports, digital and other fields as announced by the central competent authority.

Note: The “professional work” mentioned above refers to work set forth in Subparagraphs 1 to 6 of Paragraph 1, Article 46 of the Employment Services Act, or possessing specialized knowledge or skill and approved by the central competent authority in consultation with the Ministry of Education as a teacher of non-academic classes in a short-term tutorial school registered in accordance with the Supplementary Education Act.

Yes. Gold Card comes with open work rights, so you may work for any company (or multiple companies) in Taiwan or start your own business.

Yes. The Employment Gold Card is an open work permit, allowing cardholders to engage in any professional work without industry restrictions.

However, if the profession they engage in does not match the Field indicated on their Gold Card, the individual will be ineligible for the Gold Card tax benefits.

Please contact the Immigration Agency Border Affairs Corps at the airport you are landing to inform them of your arrival time and flight number. This will allow the Immigration Agency to pre-check your identity information and record your situation.

Before boarding, airlines will check your valid visa. If your card is damaged, some airlines may contact the National Immigration Agency to confirm whether you can board. So please arrive at the airport early to avoid missing your flight. Once the airline company has confirmed your status, you can board and enter the country with the damaged card.

Note: Different flights and terminals have different responsible personnel. Please confirm your arrival date and flight number before contacting the Border Affairs Corps.

There are no requirements. However, you must stay for a certain number of days to qualify for benefits such as: tax resident treatment and a pathway to permanent residence.

You do not need to travel to Taiwan right away. During the validity period of the Gold Card, you can enter Taiwan using your Gold Card status. The validity period of the Employment Gold Card starts from the day after your application is approved.

Note: After your application is approved, you can download the Resident Authorization Certificate from the Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform to enter Taiwan. You must pick up the Gold Card at the National Immigration Agency within 30 days of entry.

Currently, there are no specific laws regulating the salaries of employees hired under the Gold Card program. However, employers are still required to comply with the wage-related provisions of the Labor Standards Act. Additionally, Gold Card holders should consider the salary requirements for future applications for Gold Card extensions or permanent residency.

There is no issue if you maintain consecutive residence. Ensure there is no gap between the validity of your employment ARC and your Gold Card. Alternatively, if you hold the Gold Card and reside in Taiwan for three consecutive years, with an average stay of more than 183 days per year during this period, you may also meet the residency requirement for permanent residence.

Yes, as a Gold Card holder, your parents and grandparents are eligible to apply for a 1 year multi-entry visa for a maximum stay of six months at a time. This visa can be extended in Taiwan to allow for a maximum stay of one year at a time. Contact your nearest Taiwan diplomatic post or the Bureau of Consular Affairs to apply. Please note: The final duration of stay for the visa will be determined by the overseas mission.

If you want to provide the address of the hotel as your residence address, you must ask the operator to provide the accommodation certificate for at least half a year of stay.

You must provide a company registration certificate or a company change registration form 公司變更登記表 (a screenshot is sufficient to prove that your company is indeed located here) and a statement (stamped with the company seal) explaining why you must use the company address as your residential address (e.g. you are a wind turbine engineer who lives in a dormitory but often works offshore).

Yes, but you must first leave Taiwan and then log into the Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform to submit a new application with your new nationality, select “No” in the “Do you hold, or have you ever held, an Employment Gold Card?” field and choose “Apply overseas”.

After paying the application fee, please contact the National Immigration Agency service center and provide the old and new Gold Card application numbers to facilitate the integration of the old and new card numbers. After the case is submitted, if you need to enter Taiwan, you can use your original Gold Card and a valid passport with the corresponding nationality for entry. However, at the passport verification stage, you must still submit the passport overseas, and finally, you will enter Taiwan with the new passport.

Important notes:

When the new case is approved, the original Employment Gold Card will be canceled, and a new Gold Card with the same ID number but the new nationality will be issued.

  1. The residence period of the Gold Cards from different nationalities will be combined, meaning it will not affect your eligibility for permanent residency.
  2. Family members of the Gold Card holders do not need to reapply for their ARC.
  3. When the Gold Card holder enters Taiwan, they must present a passport that matches the nationality on their Gold Card for inspection. If they have lost the nationality associated with their original Gold Card, they will not be able to enter Taiwan using the original Gold Card.
