Is it possible to change the nationality of Employment Gold Card holders? What are the processes, restrictions, and regulations?

Yes, but you must first leave Taiwan and then log into the Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform to submit a new application with your new nationality, select “No” in the “Do you hold, or have you ever held, an Employment Gold Card?” field and choose “Apply overseas”.

After paying the application fee, please contact the National Immigration Agency service center and provide the old and new Gold Card application numbers to facilitate the integration of the old and new card numbers. After the case is submitted, if you need to enter Taiwan, you can use your original Gold Card and a valid passport with the corresponding nationality for entry. However, at the passport verification stage, you must still submit the passport overseas, and finally, you will enter Taiwan with the new passport.

Important notes:

When the new case is approved, the original Employment Gold Card will be canceled, and a new Gold Card with the same ID number but the new nationality will be issued.

  1. The residence period of the Gold Cards from different nationalities will be combined, meaning it will not affect your eligibility for permanent residency.
  2. Family members of the Gold Card holders do not need to reapply for their ARC.
  3. When the Gold Card holder enters Taiwan, they must present a passport that matches the nationality on their Gold Card for inspection. If they have lost the nationality associated with their original Gold Card, they will not be able to enter Taiwan using the original Gold Card.
