If Hong Kong residents hold other foreign passport(s), what should they be aware of when applying for a Gold Card?
- For holders of a British National (Overseas) Passport (BNO), please apply for the Employment Gold Card as a Hong Kong or Macau resident and complete the Hong Kong or Macau Resident Confirmation Document. (Note)
- For those holding both a Hong Kong passport and another foreign passport (excluding the British National (Overseas) Passport BNO), there are two scenarios: • Applying under the other nationality: You must draft an affidavit stating that you will only use the foreign passport (not the Hong Kong/Macau passport) to enter Taiwan. The affidavit must include your signature and the date. • Applying as a Hong Kong/Macau resident: You will need to renounce the other nationality. This requires submitting a Certificate of Renunciation of Foreign Nationality verified by a foreign mission, along with a notarized Chinese translation authenticated by an overseas mission or a domestic notary.
- Article 4, Item 1 and Item 2 of the Laws and Regulations Regarding Hong Kong & Macao Affairs states that the term “Hong Kong Residents” refers to persons who qualify for permanent residency in Hong Kong and who do NOT hold a travel document other than a BNO passport or a Hong Kong passport.
